Beer Description

Full-bodied with robust caramel malt notes, this ale features a slight crispness married to subtle fruity esters from Edinburgh ale yeast.

EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY
We thought long and hard about the name for the Wee Heavy but monikers involving kilts and bagpipes were ubiquitous and none rang true for an association with Meadowlark or the area. None had special meaning. Travis mentioned the name of his late dog and when Tim heard his story, Ole Gus was born. Gus, a Neapolitan Mastiff, was a big, black, slobbery companion to Travis and Emily, our founders. Gus traveled to construction projects with Travis while he was still working as an engineer and often became the job mascot. The crews and the local citizenry would often visit the job site just to see the “big black dog.” Yes, his size and slobber were intimidating but a gentler demeanor could not be found.
Gus enjoyed long walks on the beach, beer only off a hot sidewalk, and refusing to get off the couch or the bed. We tribute Ole Gus Wee Heavy Rye Ale to man’s best friend and think you will find this beer is like it’s namesake: big and bold, but with a gentle, sweet finish. Cheers to man’s best friend!
