Beer Description
This was supposed to be a schwarzbier. This is not a schwarzbier.
Ed was a lot of things. The list is long. PhD. Engineer. Entrepreneur. Pilot. Auctioneer. Golf Pro. Motorcycle Enthusiast. Banjo Player. Grandfather. Role Model.
But he wasn’t a beer drinker. The only beer I ever saw him drink, via photographic evidence from days long ago, was Miller Lite (‘A Fine Pilsner Beer™’).
The morning of 4/18/2020, days after he was prescribed aggressively palliative care for his rapidly declining health, I scrapped my plans for a schwarzbier and set out to create ‘A Fin(er) Pilsner Beer’ – one with pilsner malt, c-10, carapils, and El Dorado hops – for the man that existed in the photograph. As the beer whirlpooled, I was called away from the brew deck – summoned hours away to be with him as he left us.
I would have loved to share this with him, and am equally delighted to share it with you.
