Beer Description

Prior to the 19th century and the invention of more modern malting equipment and techniques it’s likely all beer had some degree of smoky aromas or flavors. This was due to the direct heating and kilning of malt via fire. In Bamberg, Germany they have been brewing these smokey “Rauchbiers” beers for hundreds of years. Usually by smoking barley malt over Beechwood. Barrique Rauchbier is Double decocted Märzen-Style Rauchbier mashed using Beechwood Smoked Malt and rich toasty Munich malts. Gentle smokiness doesn’t overwhelm the subtle molasses sweetness and crusty malt character.
