Born of a passion for the art and science of brewing great, memorable beer and a love for the historic lakefront Chicago neighborhood known as the South Loop, no other name or location was ever considered for the brewery. It had to be in the South Loop and it had to be South Loop Brewing Company.
Take a stroll around the neighborhood bordered (loosely) by Roosevelt, Cermak, Canal and Lake Michigan and you’ll soon understand why. Turn-of-the-century mansions flanked by empty lots, secluded parks next to towering condos and classic restaurants amongst abandoned industrial buildings. All located within minutes of both the loop and the greatest of all the great lakes. At times, it’s mysterious. Other times, it’s metropolitan and electric.
We did our homework, constructed our master plan and turned to IndieGoGo (see video below) to try our hand at fundraising. Getting this brewery from our heads to reality wasn’t going to be cheap…or easy. Though, thanks to the overwhelming and humbling generosity of friends, family and strangers alike (who art thou immortalized below), we kicked our fundraising goal’s ass, struck up an agreement with our good friends at Aquanaut Brewing Company and installed our very own 15BBL (465 gallons) fermenting vessel in their beautiful brewery. There, we will brew and package the South Loop Brewing Company lineup of beers just long enough for us to find, prepare and move into our own permanent home in the actual South Loop.
