BeerMenus: By the Numbers

Last updated June 22, 2017 · By Dylan Blake

Every spring we like to take a look back at the previous year.

I'll be the first to admit, part of this process is self reflective/indulgent:

Were our collaboration beers this past year better than the year prior?

But, rest assured, we also ask—and answer—other questions.

Namely: how many people used BeerMenus in the last year? How many times? For what?

We want to make these stats available to the great businesses who use BeerMenus. By doing so, you'll be able to see and feel the effect of the BeerMenus community, and also understand the integral role you play in that community.

With that goal in mind, we put together the slides below.

Digital Beer Boards at The Local Tap House of Nyack

Last updated May 22, 2017 · By Dylan Blake

We recently sat down with Travis Koester, owner of The Local Tap House of Nyack. We talked about life in the bar industry, his beer program, and his Digital Beer Board.

Digital Beer Board A screen grab of the Digital Beer Board BeerMenus Customer Success created, based on Koester's customization wishes.

Travis Koester, owner of the Local Tap House of Nyack, has worked in the bar industry for 10 years.

So when it finally came time for him to open a bar of his own a couple years ago, he already had a vision for it.

Answers: Do the FDA's new labeling requirements matter for your business?

Last updated May 02, 2017 · By Will

Update: on March 24th, the Brewer's Association released the guidance necessary to calculate beer calorie content. As a result, (and as you can read in our latest blog post here), we've successfully built our Calorie Content Generator.

We've recently gotten a number of questions about what the FDA's new requirements on alcohol-related calorie and nutrient information mean for beer retailers. We dug into the FDA's extremely riveting (kidding, obviously) official sources and pulled out the most relevant information.

In short: if the rules apply to you, we've got you covered. We can now display the necessary calorie information, making sure your mainstay beers comply with the new rules. If you have any questions, drop us a line at 347-927-1574 or support@beermenus.com.

Solution: FDA Beer Calorie Requirements for Chain Restaurants

Last updated April 04, 2017 · By Dylan Blake

Last week the Brewer's Association unveiled their Calorie and Carbohydrate Calculator and Beer Nutrient Database. These are the basic tools chain restaurants can use to generate the calorie content they need on their menus starting May 5.

We gave the process a shot and found it's tedious at best and an annoyance at worst.

However, because the primary calculators have been released, not everyone will have to go through the tedious process: Our development team has filled in the final pieces of our Calorie Content Generator.

2016 Roundup Part 4: Most Popular Beers

Grimm Lambo Door

Here it is, our fourth and final piece of the BeerMenus 2016 Roundup series.

We think we saved the best for last. Below are the most popular beers of 2016, broken out by where in the US the beer was brewed: East, Midwest, or West.

How?

Full disclosure: we love a lot of these beers. But our palates didn't make any decisions in regards to the list. We determined the rankings by looking at unique BeerMenus page views for each beer.

While we weren't too surprised by most beers on the list, there were a couple that left us flabbergasted. There was one big ol' Stunner in particular.

Congrats to all breweries on the list, and thanks for making these awesome beers part of 2016.

2016 Roundup Part 3: BeerMenus Favorites

I hesitate to think how many beers the BeerMenus team consumed in 2016.

  • We had a heck of a lot of local stuff from the many great NYC breweries.
  • We made a few collaboration brews.
  • We went down to Philly for the Craft Brewer's Conference.
  • We flew to Chicago for Craft Beer Week.
  • Our co-founder Will went to Belgium and brought back some Cantillon.
  • We attended Ommegang's Belgium Comes to Cooperstown.
  • We had a company retreat in Maine in December.

But despite the one or two beers all that entailed, everybody here at BeerMenus had one single beer that spoke to them more than the rest. Below you'll find everyone's top beer from 2016.

If you're one of the breweries who make these great beers, thank you! And if you agree with our choices, then cheers to you!

2016 Roundup Part 2: Most Popular Craft Beer Businesses

Last updated December 28, 2016 · By Dylan Blake

We were busy in 2016. 25 million people visited BeerMenus to find great beer. 50,000 new beers were added to our database. 9,000 new businesses joined the BeerMenus community. These numbers are bananas!

Yet through it all, a number of businesses stood out for the insane amount of traffic driven to their page. Below you'll find the 10 businesses on BeerMenus that received the most page views in 2016.

These businesses are not in any particular order, nor are they all clustered in one geographic area. From Manhattan to Wichita, sports bars to liquor stores, this list proves that craft beer is, truly, a national game.

In fact, the only consistent fact about these businesses is that update their BeerMenus page often.

Congrats to the businesses below on an awesome year, and good luck to all in 2017!

Check them out below, and be sure to check back throughout the week to see our parts 2, 3, and 4 in our 2016 Roundup.
